Township Parks + Recreation
The Township has jurisdiction over several parks and public access sites. The parks in Forest Home Township showcase breathtaking beauty, from lush green meadows to tranquil lakes and towering woodlands. Each park offers a diverse landscape filled with unique flora and fauna, providing endless opportunities for exploration and enjoyment.
Glacial Hills Trails
Discover over 30 miles of scenic single-track trails perfect for hiking, biking, and running, offering breathtaking views year round nestled deep in majestic old-growth forests. In 2006, the Township received a grant from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund to acquire 165 acres of upland property which can be accessed from several different parking lots.
Forest Home Township Family Park
The Township maintains a park on Torch Lake at the north end of the Township which is open for day use only with picnic tables, grills, a parking area and stairs down to the lake. In 2003, the Township acquired a long-term lease from the MDNR for 103 feet of Torch Lake adjacent to the park. It has a walk-in boat launch for small boats such as kayaks and canoes.
Loon Nursery Preserve
In 2000, the Township received a grant from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund to acquire a 32 acre preserve on the North Arm of Lake Bellaire, which is used by the threatened loon to raise their young. The Township maintains a trail down to viewing platform on Lake Bellaire which is open dawn to dusk year round.
Arrowhead Park
In 2006, Forest Home Township acquired a small parcel on the northeast shore of Clam Lake. The Parks and Recreation Committee will develop a management plan for the property.
Gorham Beach Park
Gorham Beach Park is located on the southwest shoreline of Intermediate Lake. It is an excellent picnic area with tables and grills. It is easily accessible by boat or car and is a good swimming and viewing area. This property is leased by Forest Home Township from the DNR.
Cottage Drive Family Park | Miley’s Beach
Cottage Drive Family Park/Miley’s Beach is located on the western shore of Lake Bellaire. It is a family destination park with excellent swimming, sandy beach, picnic tables, grills, benches, and restroom facilities.
The Meadows

The Meadows property is located off Bellaire Highway, east of North Arms Road, and is home to 70 acres of public natural area. The vacant land was purchased by Forest Home Township and now the Township is exploring long-range options for public facilities and recreational improvements through the creation of a Design Plan.
